Follow live coverage of the final round of the 2024 PGA Championship todayLOUISVILLE, Ky. — Justin Thomas predicted it so perfectly. Six of the biggest names in golf are within two shots of the lead on Sunday at the year’s second major championship. It served as a reminder — just as his hot start at the Masters did — of the truth about DeChambeau: Golf hated DeChambeau. That combined with a PGA Championship win to add to his 2013 U.S. Open win at Merion takes Rose from solid career to one of the best European golfers of the century. It coming at a PGA Championship (often viewed as the lowest of the four majors) wouldn’t help.

When Scarlett Johansson announced in June of 2022 that she was launching a skincare line, I wasn't just skeptical; I was confused. However, Scarlett Johansson's skincare label, The Outset, was one career move I didn't see coming, despite the fact the Marvel actor has an undeniably glowing complexion. CNN —Italy has donated a reconstructed Assyrian statue to Iraq in a gesture former culture minister Francesco Rutelli described as a “miracle” of Italian cultural diplomacy. Constructed in the ninth century BC, the 5-meter-tall (16-foot) “Bull of Nimrud” was destroyed by ISIS fighters in 2015, before Italian artisans made a copy of the monument using 3D-printing technology. The replica, which was previously displayed at the Colosseum in Rome and the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, has now been permanently relocated outside the entrance to the Basrah Museum in the Iraqi city of Basra. Gaining a better understanding of the impact of artificial light on these winged creatures is crucial as light pollution plays an increasing role in the decline of global insect populations, the researchers wrote. Artificial light confuses nocturnal insectsWhen artificial light does not interfere, nocturnal insects keep their backs pointed toward whatever direction is brightest, which is typically the sky versus the ground. By using insect-scale motion-capture cameras, the researchers determined that the flying insects exhibited three consistent behaviors: orbiting, stalling and inverting. Moths and other insects can become trapped in a disorienting orbit around artificial light sources such as street lamps and porch lights. The new findings could help with conservation by fueling research on how to minimize the effects of light pollution on the insects, Dombroskie said.

Why do we buy merch, or shy away from it? What does the merch you wear say about who you are, what you believe in? Carrying the bag in your own city seemed too boosterish, too earnest for a New Yorker, whereas outside the city, the local merch telegraphs your hometown pride and N.Y.C. Once you leave the place, the merch becomes a souvenir, a nostalgic keepsake. Debating the laws of merch is a diversion, an amusing exercise in questioning our own pieties.

The author is less concerned with the cosmetic in contemporary pop culture (a shout-out to Taylor Swift’s cat-eye is mercifully brief), and more about the “glorious and profound histories swirling around” it — particularly how people of color continue to turn to it as an essential part of their heritage. She takes us on a whirlwind tour: to the Neues Museum in Berlin, where the bust of the Egyptian queen Nefertiti, dating to between 1351 and 1334 B.C., sits behind bulletproof glass; to the Chari-Baguirmi region of Chad, where Wodaabe men not only wear liner on days they perform in the annual Worso festival, but carry mirrors “to keep their looks, especially their kohl, in check”; to Iran, where its cosmetic use, according to one woman, is “a tool for female empowerment and civil disobedience.”We visit Petra, Jordan, to meet Bedouin hunks, some cave-dwelling, who admit they use kohl “because they are aware that women, mainly white tourists, may find them more attractive that way.”Hankir also explores the “expressive and transgressive” “winged” chola aesthetic rocked by young Mexican American women in Southern California, along with the Indian classical dance performance kathakali, for which male performers in Kerala carefully pile on the kajal for an hour before taking the stage.
